A Delegation of Education Promotion Society of India meets President Pranab Mukherjee over 2018 QS Ranking of the colleges across India
A team of Education Promotion
Society of India (EPSI) called upon the President Shri Pranab Mukherjee
regarding the QS Ranking of the colleges across India at the Rashtrapati Bhawan
on June 9, 2017.
The delegation apprised President
Shri Pranab Mukherjee about EPSI’s role in advocating the growth and quality of
education In India. The organization has recently launched a website
Studyindia.org, which lists all the Universities and colleges along with the
courses being offered by them.
Appreciating the work being done by
EPSI, President Shri Pranab Mukherjee said, “I am
happy that this portal is promoting Indian Higher Education and attracting the
foreign nationals. As of now, there are about 45,000 foreign students
only studying in India. I came to know that EPSI through this web portal
is targeting 1,00,000 foreign students in the year 2018. This is a
welcome move. I congratulate Dr. G Viswanathan, President EPSI and the
office bearers to take up this cause.”
The organisation coordinates between
Government and Institutional operators, academia and industry and between student community and beneficiary employers and between
national and international bodies committed to the advancement and improvement
of education.
Meanwhile, QS Regional Director, Mr Ashwin Fernandes said
that three years ago, India was home to only 14 ranked universities in the QS
world ranking. It is now home to 20 top universities, with six new universities
having entered the cohort in that time. This demonstrates that more of our
institutions are being deemed worthy of entry into the rankings, which in turn
indicates greater strength in depth.
President Pranab Mukherjee also
said, “On this joyful occasion, it gives me further
immense happiness to see India rising on the global stage. Year after
year, Indian Universities are competing at global level and improving in
various global level rankings. He also added that the QS World University
Rankings are amongst the top referenced University Rankings in the world
today. In this background, the 2018 Education of QS World Rankings are
considered resource for students, parents, academics and policy makers alike to
use in pursuit of their various goals. In comparison with best rankings,
this Edition would allow these audiences to better understand institutional,
national, regional and global trends as they develop. I can indeed see
how India is transforming itself into an advanced knowledge economy.”
He said that he is very
happy to learn that for the first time in the QS World Rankings, two private
universities have made a mark – Birla Institute of Technology and Science and
Manipal University.
The EPSI delegation was
